Continuing Professional Development in Library and Information Science
The Steering Committee for the ALA Second Congress on Professional Education (November 2000) defined continuing professional development as a broad spectrum of activities including: continuing education, lifelong learning activities, training and skills development, intellectual nourishment, forums for reflection, exposure to new ideas, work experience, professional refreshment and rejuvenation, personal networking. The Committee further recognized that there are many means of addressing continuing professional development including: formal workshops, credit courses, conferences and other events, research and publication, professional reading, association activity, personal networking. GSLIS is committed to expanding our focus of continuous learning and development by creating and providing the library and information professional community with a variety of continuing professional development opportunities in many areas of library and information science, services, and operations. Courses are offered on campus and via the Internet-based LEEP option.
