Crop Performance Test Programs

The Department of Crop Sciences manages crop performance tests (yield and other agronomic characteristics) for corn, soybean, wheat, sorghum, and alfalfa--the major economic crops in Illinois. Corn and soybeans alone account for the majority of farm cash receipts in Illinois. Therefore, the performance results made available through this program have immediate economic significance to major industry. Results of the corn and soybean performance trials are published in Illinois Agri-News, a regional weekly newspaper with a circulation of 55,000. All crop results are published in a Department of Crop Sciences special report bulletin and posted on its website. Performance reports issued by this program are regarded as the premier source of objective third party information on current cultivars. These reports guide cultivar selection in Illinois and surrounding states to ensure producers are growing the best cultivar for their farming operation.
