Service Learning in Community Organization

Students in the School's graduate course on Community Organization (SW 402) have an opportunity to learn-by-doing and, at the same time, contribute to the community. Students are currently engaged in four projects: 1) assisting the Urbana Park District's Recreation Department in seeking ways to improve programming for exceptional children; 2) assisting the Urban League of Champaign County in studying the needs of students who drop out of school; 3) working with the Champaign Housing Authority to develop a plan and proposal for a licensed home day care program; 4) working through the University's East St. Louis Action Research Project (ESLARP), joining with Lansdowne residents to canvass neighborhoods regarding their interests in and potential contributions to the local community development corporation.
