Corn Breeders School

The commercial plant breeding industry has long been a major constituency of the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Crop Sciences. The Illinois seed industry currently numbers about 30 plant-breeding firms, employs about 200 professional plant breeders, and averages about 300 million dollars annually in gross sales within the state.

The college and department serve the commercial plant-breeding industry by annually organizing and sponsoring this school, which serves as a continuing education program for professional plant breeders in the private sector. University faculty present lectures to 150 to 200 attendees. Workshop proceedings are published.
