Ecological Database of the World's Insect Pathogens
This database, EDWIP, provides information on fungi, viruses, protozoa, mollicutes, nematodes, and bacteria that are infectious in insects, mites, and related arthropods. The focus is on information that can help the user address ecological problems, and includes data on habitat, food, and generations per year for the insects. Scientists interested in improving microbial control can search EDWIP to learn the host range of a pathogen, countries and habitats in which an association may occur, and to find sources for more data. Scientists and government regulators interested in the risks of releasing microbial control agents can discover which insects do not form associations with a given pathogen. Information provided on life stages infected, lab or field observations, insect habitats and food could also help in evaluating the risks of microbial control. The database also provides insect pathologists with up-to-date information on the state of knowledge. The database is supported by the Center for Economic Entomology within the Illinois Natural History Survey.
