Public Service Activities
Children and Family Research Center
During the 1990s, the federal government and the states sought to develop meaningful information on the performance of child welfare agencies caring for vulnerable children. The Children and Family Research Center, a collaboration between the School of Social Work and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, has a tri-part mission: reporting on the safety, well-being and permanency of family relationships of the children in the care of the Department; conducting research linking policy, practice and service outcomes; and encouraging interdisciplinary research on issues of relevance to public child welfare. The Center is nationally recognized for its unique role in the state, emphasis on developing measures and reporting on service outcomes, and leadership in the integration of research findings into policy and practice.
