University of Illinois Astronomical Society

The UI Astronomical Society (or "UI Astronomy Club") has a primary goal of bringing together astronomy-enthusiasts at the UIUC. Meetings are held twice each month, usually consisting of astronomy-related workshops and lectures by profesors and students of astronomy. The club also arranges serveral observing events throughout the year, from evening observing sessions on campus to weekend camping trips at select "dark sky" sites. Club events are appropriate for nearly all levels of knowledge, from novice to seasoned amateur, and our members reflect a wide range of levels of specialized knowledge.

The UI Astronomical Society also hosts a monthly public open house at the historic campus Observatory, during which members show interesting celestial objects currently visible in the sky through the 12" refracting telescope.
