Prairie Flowers Program

This program introduces hands-on science into rural elementary and middle schools for grades 4-8. Teachers attend a summer workshop where they are trained on inquiry-driven, hands-on science activities usable in classrooms. Science kits created by members during the past 12 years rotate among new and continuing participants during the year. The program serves 120 middle school science teachers directly and an additional 118 through indirect service. 10,256 students work with science equipment loaned from the Prairie Flowers Program. The program is funded by the current grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute through August 2006.
