Labor Education Program

LEP, part of the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations, provides non-credit educational services to employees, particularly trade union members and their representatives. Courses are offered through a co-sponsoring labor organization or on an open enrollment basis at the UIUC campus, the institute's Chicago office, and in downstate cities. Programs focus on building both leadership and membership skills in organizations and communities. Subjects include collective bargaining, contract administration, arbitration, labor law, labor history, communications, and occupational safety and health. LEP conducts courses for union groups with a history of under representation (particularly women and Hispanics) and works with labor-management cooperation programs aimed at improving productivity and employee participation in decision making.
