Animal Science Program at Dixon Springs
At Dixon Springs Agricultural Center, research is being conducted in estrus synchronization of beef cows; artificial insemination of beef cows; the use of genetic markers to predict performance of beef calves; the influence of nutrition level on heifer performance and subsequent milk production; systems of beef production to produce lean high quality beef; winter grazing of tall fescue grass that has been fertilized with nitrogen, and compounds to alleviate the tall fescue toxicosis problem for cows grazing during midsummer. A station wide field day is held every other year and a beef day is held on the off years to provide producers with research information generated by the center.
