School-Age Child Care Programming

The Department of Human and Community Development provides statewide leadership to University of Illinois Extension programming related to school-age child care, including children in self-care. An interdisciplinary team of educators in Extension offices throughout Illinois and campus-based faculty and academic professionals work with parents, professionals, and local communities to assess the need for and establish school-age child care programs, provide educational materials for parents on locating and evaluating school-age child care options, provide training in self-care skills to youth, and offer training, technical assistance, and curricula to child care professionals who work with school-age youth.
