Plant Clinic
This interdepartmental venture operates as an integrated plant health laboratory. About 2,600 samples of ornamental and agricultural plants throughout Illinois are diagnosed each year. Plant samples submitted by seed and lawn companies, consultants, growers, homeowners, and gardeners are examined for disease, insect and chemical injury, nutrient problems, and nematode injury. Weed and plant identification is also available. Specialists are consulted as needed in the areas of botany, entomology, forestry, horticulture, mycology, plant pathology, soils, soil fertility, and weed science. A letter of diagnosis with suggested control measures is provided for each sample and a nominal fee is charged to cover direct expenses.
