Forage Quality: Partnership to Monitor and Communicate Changes in Illinois

This partnership benefits Illinois food-animal producers by providing information that enables them to harvest the highest possible quality forage for consumption by their livestock. Several livestock groups, feed companies, and forage-testing laboratories have identified a need to monitor and communicate the ever-changing quality of Illinois forages during the spring. Eight locations have been identified as potential sampling sites; up to 24 Illinois alfalfa fields will be sampled to measure forage quality. Results will be immediately posted on the World Wide Web to allow producer and media access.
