The Applied Study and Experiential Learning Term (AST)
This program helps undergraduate students fulfill their need for practical experience and professional development by providing academically sponsored learning experiences. Students serve as interns in various agencies, businesses, and government offices, where they learn about work tasks, professional life, and the community's problems. The AST process emphasizes self-directed learning, determination of additional learning needs, cultivation of independent learning skills, and the development of increased awareness of community, diversity and public affairs. AST serves the university and the surrounding community by providing student interns who are academically supervised and who provide short-term additions to the workforce. Of the 350 students participating each year, 50% serve as volunteer interns.
