Public Service Activities


WUIS/WIPA Public Radio Station

This public radio station (91.9 FM and 89.3 FM) reaches more than 350,000 residents in Central and West-Central Illinois. It is affiliated with National Public Radio and Public Radio International. The broadcast schedule includes news; public affairs; classical, jazz, folk, and bluegrass music; and programs such as Garrison Keillor and "Whad 'Ya Know." The radio station is operated by professional staff supplemented by faculty, student workers, and community volunteers. Financial support comes from state and federal sources and from tax-deductible contributions from listeners and businesses. A bimonthly program guide is distributed to those who support the station through voluntary subscriptions. WUIS/WIPA has a commitment to in-depth coverage of the Illinois legislature and provides the other 12 public stations in Illinois with news reports from the state capital. Broadcast highlights include the governor's State of the State and budget addresses, along with Illinois state election coverage.
