Public Service Activities
Kinship Care Practice Project
The project was developed in response to the recognition of a growing population of relatives caring for children of family members in foster care. Project activities include studies of casework practice with children in kinship care, the development of a learning manual and videotapes, and training workshops and symposia designed to teach child welfare agency supervisors and trainers how to prepare caseworkers for practice. The research-based training curriculum developed as a result of the Project is contained in the manual entitled, "Achieving Permanency for Children in Kinship Foster Care: A Training Manual." This comprehensive manual has been distributed nationally to a wide audience including other schools of social work. In February of 1999 the Kinship Care Project established an on-line presence for even greater distribution of Project materials. By accessing the Project web-site at http://www.uic.edu/jaddams/college/kincare viewers can review the entire curriculum including charts, learning activities, references and the four video segments.
