Chicago Workforce Development Partnership for Manufacturing
This program of the Great Cities Institute has two related goals: 1) to meet the needs of Chicago-area manufacturers for a qualified and committed workforce, and; 2) to provide an educational path for Chicago residents (especially the disadvantaged) to gain entry-level employment and ongoing career development in manufacturing. The program seeks to accomplish these goals by building a partnership of the most effective providers of employment and training for manufacturing in the region, including high schools, community colleges, universities, community-based organizations, and public agencies. The Chicago Manufacturing Center, the area affiliate of the NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership, is also a key partner. The current activities of this partnership include efforts to strengthen high school Tech Prep programs, build Tech Prep "bridge" programs for educationally-disadvantaged adults, enhance community college certificate and associate degree level technical education and training, and provide results-oriented continuing education and training for the incumbent manufacturing workforce.
