Energy Resources Center
OVERVIEW The Energy Resources Center (ERC) is a College of Engineering University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) interdisciplinary public service, research, and special projects organizationa dedicated to improving energy efficiency and the environment. It was established in 1973 by the Board of Trustees as an approved Illinois Board of Higher Education center with the mandate to conduct studies in the fields of energy and environment and to provide industry, utilities, government agencies and the public with assistance, information, and advice on new technologies, public policy, and professional development training. TECHNICAL SERVICES The Center has, a part of its mission statement, the responsibility to assist both private and public institutions at the local, state and public levels. Thus, the ERC seeks to partner with other industries, manufacturers, or energy agencies to provide modestly priced energy conservation/technology initiatives that result in reduced energy bills and improved energy efficiency. TECHNICAL EXPERTISE Below is a sample of the Center's tools, capabilities and expertise: - Technical/economic evaluation of gas technologies - Engineering design and economic benefit analysis of new energy systems - Enhanced computer tools to engineer new heating and cooling devices and systems - Energy simulations of institutional, commercial and industrial facilities - Monitoring performance of energy retrofits at major facilities - Analysis of improved industrial processes - Developing energy conversation technologies for residential housing - Energy conservation and mechanical system audits for small to medium-sized manufacturing firms - Indoor air quality technical evaluations of industrial facilities - Engineering consulting to Chicago's major museums, zoos, and art institutes - Professional development seminars and development of specialized learning tools - Develop Internet based school energy conservation programs - Copies of the Center's technical reports are available at no charge General Information Line: 312-996-4490 Fax: 312-996-5620
